Misdiagnosis of Hemothorax as Atelectasis After Minimally Invasive Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion Surgery

چکیده
This report describes a case in which a patient presented with hemothorax after a minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (mTLIF) was performed under general anesthesia. Diagnosis of hemothorax was delayed because it is a rare complication of mTLIF. Following surgery, the patient was diagnosed with total atelectasis by a respiratory physician in the intensive care unit. The atelectasis did not improve following ventilator care and bronchial washing under bronchoscopic guidance. Chest radiography revealed a hemothorax, chest tube drainage was performed, and the patient’s condition improved. Hemothorax is rare complication of mTLIF. However, anesthesiologists should carefully observe the symptoms and the vital signs of the patient for this possibility. Keyword: Atelectasis, Hemothorax, Spine

Role of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery in Adults with Degenerative Lumbar Scoliosis: A Narrative Review
Background and Aim: Degenerative lumbar scoliosis is a spinal deformity resulting from advanced disc degeneration and facet arthropathy. Given the inconclusive available literature and lack of high-quality data supporting the role of minimally invasive surgical management of degenerative lumbar scoliosis, this review intends to highlight and compare the various viable minimally invasive surgica...

متن کاملMinimally Invasive Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion: A Perspective on Current Evidence and Clinical Knowledge
This paper reviews the current published data regarding open transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) in relation to minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (MI-TLIF). Introduction. MI-TLIF, a modern method for lumbar interbody arthrodesis, has allowed for a minimally invasive method to treat degenerative spinal pathologies. Currently, there is limited literature that com...
متن کاملEfficacy of minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion for single-segment lumbar degenerative disease
Lumbar degenerative disease is the major cause of low back pain. Currently, surgical treatment remains the standard care for lumbar degenerative disease. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and complications of minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (MIS-TLIF) for the treatment of single-segment lumbar degenerative disease. A total of 75 patients with single-segment lum...
متن کاملThe Minimally Invasive Retroperitoneal Transpsoas Approach
Minimally invasive spine surgery has evolved from traditional open spine surgery, and it is an accepted, safe alternative (McAfee, et al., 2010). Traditional open operations for lumbar interbody fusion include anterior lumbar interbody fusion (ALIF), posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF), and transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF). The ALIF provides for a large interbody graft for dis...
